For one of its clients, a leading manufacturer of specialist tyres, MMR Group MediaTransfer conducted a cost simulation of a project to insulate a vulcanising press for tyre production, powered by saturated steam at a temperature of 160°C, using the Conti® Thermo Protect system. As a result, heat energy losses were significantly reduced, and the estimated return on investment (ROI) time, at current rates for electricity used to produce steam, was approx. 5 months.
Conti® Thermo Protect is a set of insulating materials designed for thermal insulation and mechanical protection of high-temperature installations, dedicated to the temperature range from 140°C to 250°C, reducing heat energy losses by up to 80%. The project included thermal insulation of valves and fittings with complex shapes and developed surfaces, as well as flexible pipes, in which the Conti® Thermo Protect system shows the greatest advantage over other thermal insulation systems. At current rates for electricity used to produce steam, the estimated payback period (ROI) was around 5 months.Additionally, it limited the outside temperature of the installation to 50°C, which is of great importance in relation to OSH.
Other advantages of the Conti® Thermo-Protect system:
- easy to assemble and disassemble;ready insulation allows for easy and quick access to fittings for inspection, replacement of seals, tightness tests, etc.
- resistant to UV radiation, weather conditions and many media,
- self-extinguishing, hydrophobic, waterproof, vapour permeable,
- thanks to its high vapour permeability it protects against corrosion under the insulating layer (CUI),
- durable and with low environmental impact,
- highly mechanically resistant and flexible in dynamic systems in the temperature range from -50 to +250°C,
- supplied in the form of mats made of unvulcanised rubber for individual adjustment, undergoing rapid self-vulcanisation on the installation and in the form of ready-made vulcanised formats and mats dedicated to the insulation of standard fittings, flexible pipes and any shapes.
